Key Questions

How do I get my keys cut and programmed?
When you buy the key(s) from us we can provide contact information on the closest affiliate with the right hardware and software to cut and/or program your new key(s). Then, you just need to bring over your vehicle and your keys, and that affiliate will activate the keys for you. You will pay the affiliate directly for cutting and/or programming services.

I lost all my keys and need a replacement what can I do?
When there are no keys present we may be able to cut your key(s) by VIN number. VIN-Cuts will require your VIN number and proof of ownership before the keys can be turned over to you. If a VIN-Cut is not possible, we have a referral service which gives you contact information of our closest affiliate(s) who can originate keys for you at your vehicle.

Do you guarantee your VIN-Cuts?
As our website states, we will cut your key based on your VIN number. If the cut key does not fit your locks, it really is out of our control since we are just cutting it based off of VIN-related key data from the car maker's database that really would not be compatible with a lock if it has been changed by a previous owner.

I have no master key for my Lexus/Toyota or Honda/Acura...the dealer says I need to buy a brand new computer...can you help me?
You can tell you have a master key if the security light goes out the same instant you place the key in the ignition cylinder. A valet key would make the security light go out after one second from the moment you insert the key into the ignition lock.

If you have no master-chipped key, the most cost-effective way to get new keys to work for your car would be to reflash your computer. The reflashing price would be 225 dollars and that includes 3 non-remote keys. Reflashing is resetting the computer and we would do that. We would give you info on how to pull out the computer (all you need is a screw driver in most cases) and when we receive it we would reflash it and then overnight it back to you along with three keys and programming instructions.

What is a VATS ignition key?
This was one of the earlier security systems used by GM vehicles. We will need the resistance reading (in ohms) from the chip in the blade of your key before we can ship out your VATS key.

How do I measure the resistance reading on my VATS ignition key?
Please take your working key to a local electronic store, like Radio Shack, and have them use a multimeter to measure the ohms value of the steel wafer in the black chip of your key blade. The reading should correspond to one of the following ranges below:

402 ohms (acceptable range 386-438)
523 ohms (acceptable range 502-564)
681 ohms (acceptable range 650-728)
887 ohms (acceptable range 850-942)
1130 ohms (acceptable range 1085-1195)
1470 ohms (acceptable range 1411-1549)
1870 ohms (acceptable range 1795-1965)
2370 ohms (acceptable range 2275-2485)
3010 ohms (acceptable range 2890-3150)
3740 ohms (acceptable range 3590-3910)
4750 ohms (acceptable range 4560-4960)
6040 ohms (acceptable range 5798-6302)
7500 ohms (acceptable range 7200-7820)
9530 ohms (acceptable range 9149-9931)
11800 ohms (acceptable range 11328-12292)

Try to make the key blade point upwards to the sky and have each probe of a multimeter make contact with opposite sides of the steel wafer in the black chip in your blade. If the reading does not correspond to one of the ranges below, then try cleaning the surface of the steel areas where contact is being made.

What is a transponder key?
A transponder key is a high security key that is more advanced than a conventional key since it is equipped with a computerized transponder chip. The chip receives a radio signal from the car and sends back a computer-encoded password signal to the car. Transponder keys with the right code will start the engine and all other keys will stall the engine.

How do I know if my vehicle uses transponder keys?
Enter your vehicle’s year, make, and model into our online search form to check if your vehicle uses transponder keys or not. The search form will tell you if transponder keys exist for your vehicle or if your vehicle uses non-transponder keys. If transponder systems are optional for your vehicle, you will have to ask your local dealership or mechanic to verify if you have one installed or not.

What's difference between a Valet key and a Master key?
For each car this is different. For example, some cars have a locked glove box and the valet key will not open it. Most often a valet key is unable to open the trunk. Some cars need the master key to program the car.
